Easy Transfer Wizard doesn’t transfer everything
Easy Transfer Wizard doesn’t transfer everything
Question : I want to transfer my account settings from one account to another in Windows 7. A lot of the settings seem to have transferred over, but not all of them, for example the autoplay settings are set to the default in the new account. I need to find a way to transfer all the settings from all control panels to the new account.
So far, the only solution I’ve found is using the User State Migration Tool, but I’m loathe to use something that complicated unless I have to. Does anyone know of an easier way of transferring everything? Read more…
Time Sync Program for Laptop?
Time Sync Program for Laptop?
Question: ComboFix deleted AboutTime, which was what I had been using to keep the time in my laptop current.
When I clicked on http://www.freedownloadscenter.com/B…ls/index1.html (recommended by a forum admin in a 2004 post for this same question), however, Web of Trust told me that site had a bad reputation. I clicked on the details link because sometimes the warning is for something minor, but there was 63% warning of malware. I read through the comments, and many reported getting malware from the site; one even reported phishing! Read more…

Internet Explorer 8 Download Error
Question : This message pop up when I was down loading Internet Explorer 8 “the procedure entry point SHRegValueW could not be located in the dyamic link library SHLWAP1.dill.” can anyone tell me how to fix this problem?
Answer: The first thing that I would is to reinstall the current version of IE (probably 6 or 7). Once reinstalled, I would reboot and try to download/reinstall IE8 again.

Help with Microsoft Office Student Edition Install
Help with Microsoft Office Student Edition Install
Question : My son started college today, and we just realized that we did not install Microsoft Office Student and Teacher Edition 2003 on his new laptop. I have the cd, along with the product key, here at home, and he is 3 hours away. Is there a download he can get somewhere, and use the product key I have (good for up to 3 computers)? I called Microsoft, and they said they would have to mail it to him. I can do that, and get it to him quicker, but I’d like to get it on his computer sooner, if possible. Read more…
System Restore in Recovery Console
System Restore in Recovery Console
Question : I have a Dell Inspiron 9400 laptop running Vista. A few months ago the computer was updated to SP1, and after the update and reboot, the computer would no longer start. It will pass the POST screen and the Microsoft Corporation logo with progress bar will show, but it will not launch the OS. I have tried to start in safe mode, no dice, I have tried the GUI mode system restore through the Recovery Tools option, but it won’t finalize. My next step before I wipe it and start fresh (which I would like to avoid), is to try System Restore thorugh the Recovery Console (w/command prompt). I followed the directions from the MSKB site (http://support.microsoft.com/?kbid=307545), but for some reason when I get to this step:
copy f:\windows\repair\system f:\windows\system32\config\system
It tells me it can’t find the file. I have searched for the Repair directory manually and can’t find it. And ideas? Read more…
Technical problems after virus scan and removal
Technical problems after virus scan and removal .. can’t log on…
Questions : Ok yesterday my computer was acting very spastic. I ran my Mcaffee and found nothing. I thought this to be odd because of the very slow pace of my computer on top of the various windows that kept popping up that were difficult to go away. So I updated my virus protection (no new updates) and I ran a scan again. This time it picked up 5 trojans…..all of them ended with the word artemis mcaffee said that it safely removed the virus and that I needed to restart my computer. I did. BIG MISTAKE. My computer boots up and goes to our user home page. We have 4 users on our home computer I can pick any one of them and the same thing happens. It acts as if it is logging in and will go to the desktop but before it completely loads it turns right around and logs you off. I have not run across any helpful information and someone recomended here to maybe gets some insight. Read more…
HD video choppy in Windows 7
HD video choppy in Windows 7
Question : I have a Dell XPS 400, and it has an ATI Radeon X300 video card. I recently upgraded to Windows 7. Before the upgrade, all my videos from my digital camera played well. After the upgrade all my HD videos from my camera are choppy, audio skips, video does not play well. Older non-HD videos play ok. I tried updating to the latest video drivers from ATI (although they were labeled as Vista, ATI said to try at own risk basically). The driver installed ok, but did not help. Any ideas on how to fix? Oh I also tried disabling Aero, but it didn’t make a difference.
